Dear Clients, Friends & Team Members:

2016 marks our 85th year — indeed, no small feat for any firm in any industry — and we are celebrating all year long with programs like the weekly Fun Facts about our firm, the #i_am_moore social media campaign, and various events honoring clients and team members.

Just to put this milestone in perspective: research shows that 50 years ago, the life expectancy of a Fortune 500 firm was around 75 years. Today, it’s less than 15 years and declining all the time.

To our exceptional clients, we are fortunate to have earned your confidence. You have allowed us to serve you at the highest level with creativity, engineering excellence, and dependable delivery. You have also enabled us to build an incredible team of talented experts who are driven by the opportunities you have provided us as a firm.

Throughout these 85 years, one thing has remained constant at Walter P Moore — the talent of our team members. People establish culture. Our culture supports our strategy, which allows us to produce an amazing portfolio of projects through teamwork, creativity, and innovation. At 85, we are thriving. We are stronger than ever. I am excited to be part of this journey with all of you and thank you all for making it happen!

Cheers to all of you — our treasured clients and team members — and to #85andThriving!

Dilip Choudhuri

Hello and Welcome!
We’re celebrating 85 years.

85 years in the making

From humble beginnings sprang extraordinary feats. It all started in 1931 with a hot rod, a young structural engineer, and his vision to build a firm that would create epic structures. Indeed, the firm would go on to engineer the 8th Wonder of the World — the Houston Astrodome — the world’s first multi-purpose domed sports stadium, and develop a reputation for innovative design and exceptional client service.

1931
Walter P. Moore, Sr. starts the firm and finances it by selling his Stutz Bearcat. He received the Stutz from his previous employer in lieu of wages.

1965
The Houston Astrodome, the 8th wonder of the world, is designed by the firm.

2009
Firm designs the AT&T Stadium. At its opening the stadium design set several world records.

On the Shoulders of Giants

“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” — Sir Isaac Newton

Our 13 “giants” have
479
collective years of experience

It’s amazing how much has changed in the last 30 years — let alone 44, which is how long our two longest-tenured experts have been with Walter P Moore. In an economy where changing jobs every 2-5 years is the norm, it’s quite remarkable how many people have been with us for more than 30 years. It is by building upon the immense knowledge and expertise passed on by these 13 “giants,” who are truly legends in their own right, that we attribute much of our firm’s success.

Leadership is a Team Sport

“At Walter P Moore, we value teamwork. One of our coordinates — ‘Teamwork Integrates Knowledge’ — also holds true with respect to leadership. A singular leader can never replace the benefits of a team leadership environment. The best firms succeed because they hire the best and brightest; as a result, there are many leaders who are instrumental in creating the next expression of the firm. As CEO, I view one of my key responsibilities to be creating alignment among our leaders. This comes from fostering an environment of openness, sharing, trust, and collaboration.” — Dilip Choudhuri, President and CEO

Cultivating Leaders
Growing great leaders is a process of continual development. One of our most successful programs is the Leadership Training Workshop (LTW) in which we stress individual authenticity as each develops more skill. For example, we first ask each person (pre-workshop) to look at themselves from three perspectives: feedback from others, self-evaluation, and full feedback from seven key leaders. This feedback is combined with established development models for intellectual, interaction, and communication to provide leaders with a comprehensive set of tools. The LTW provides participants an overall self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and the capacity to better interact with teammates across the firm.
